Before the lesson
Give both pages and private role cards. Preview describe, identification, report number and lost property; allow fictional items throughout.
- Read the stolen-phone and possibly-lost-bag models, distinguishing a witnessed theft from an assumption.
- Role-play the wallet, bus bag and hotel camera reports, asking for location, time, description and what was actually seen.
- Summarise known facts and the next contact or report reference, then swap roles and change an identifying detail.
Support and extension
Offer a what/where/when/last seen note grid. Extend with phrases such as I'm not sure exactly…. Do not require personal crime experiences; a report reference does not guarantee recovery or an insurance payment, and procedures are fictional.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
