Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Notice how the house-and-writer example presents a claim and suggests checking the plaque.
- Discuss recommendations and expectations; use the tunnel, shop, artist and route prompts to identify reported information and what would verify it.
- Invent a local legend with two claims, name the supposed sources and decide which detail should be checked.
Support and extension
Model It is believed that… and is believed to have… for an earlier event. Keep unsupported health or local claims hypothetical; a reporting passive does not establish truth.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
