Before the lesson
Use both pages and private cards. Preview cough, swelling, examine and written information. This is language practice, not medical advice.
- Read the symptom and ankle models, noticing duration, changes and permission before an examination.
- Role-play appointment contact, unclear instructions and a follow-up visit. Ask for simpler wording and written next steps rather than inventing treatments.
- Use a short understanding check: the patient explains what they understood and asks any remaining question; swap roles.
Support and extension
Provide stems for duration and questions, using fictional symptoms. Extend with a clear summary of changes in daily activities. Do not diagnose, choose doses, promise treatment or decide whether waiting is safe.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
