Before the lesson
Use both pages. Read the two model conversations before distributing the paired role cards; partners should see only their own instructions.
- Read how the host accepts a dairy preference and an early departure without pressuring the guest.
- Practise the meal alternative, urgent journey home and birthday-dinner help; offer a useful task rather than assuming the guest will cook.
- End with thanks and a realistic follow-up arrangement, leaving a date tentative if the diary is unchecked.
Support and extension
Offer host/guest phrase pairs. Extend with introducing another guest through a shared interest. The dietary card describes a preference, not an allergy; avoid requiring private family details.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
