Before the lesson
Use the single A1-A2 reference guide. It has no exercises or answer key. Review am, is and are with familiar subjects.
- Compare a phone call at this moment with reading a book across several sessions. Both can be temporary activities.
- Read the four examples and build be + verb-ing, including the negative and question. Notice that an activity around now need not be occurring every second.
- Describe a classroom picture or invented current activity. Ask Are you working today? in a simple role-play.
Support and extension
Support with visible actions first. Extend by contrasting a temporary activity with a usual routine, without presenting every time expression as a rule that forces the tense.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
