A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or imagined answers can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Read the glasses-and-pen exchange while pointing to near and farther objects.
- Ask the desk and across-the-room questions, matching this/that with is and these/those with are.
- Play the object-guessing task, using questions and pointing rather than naming the answer.
Support and extension
Arrange clear near/far groups. Extend with Which one?; distance depends on the speaker's viewpoint.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
