Before the lesson
Use the single learner page in pairs. Personal or invented responses can vary; there is no fixed answer key.
- Use the cafe examples to distinguish a thing that does something from a place where something happens.
- Answer the prompts about helpful people, valued objects and familiar places; ask which person or place the description identifies.
- Play the guessing task with descriptions of a person, object and place; partners ask for another identifying clue.
Support and extension
Offer who/that for people, which/that for things, where for places and whose for possession. An object relative pronoun can be omitted; a subject relative pronoun cannot.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
