A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Review subject groups and everyday routine verbs. Keep the key separate. Display work / works, go / goes, study / studies and have / has; distinguish consonant-plus-y from play / plays.

  1. Read Getting to work and complete Part A, checking the subject before selecting a verb.
  2. Fill Ben's day and change the Part C subjects. Remove the third-person ending when moving from he / she to they / we.
  3. Write three routine sentences, including a family member or fictional person's routine. Use the supplied speaking questions and report one routine.

Support and extension

For support, give a small verb list and time-phrase bank. For an extension, compare weekday routines for two people. The lesson focuses on positive forms; learners can use the printed questions without constructing new ones yet. Personal answers vary, so assess subject–verb agreement rather than the time or activity chosen.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
