Before the lesson
Review one versus more than one with classroom objects. Display -s, -es, consonant-plus-y and irregular examples. Keep the key separate and distinguish toys from cities so learners do not apply -ies to every y ending.
- Read Packing for a trip and complete Part A, explaining the noun-ending clue.
- Fill the picnic text and complete Part C. In the two-sentence rewrites, change the verb and any other noun that must become plural, including teachers.
- Write three sentences about visible classroom or bag items, then compare answers using the supplied speaking prompts.
Support and extension
For support, sort examples by plural pattern and provide a short irregular list. For an extension, describe an imagined bag with varied quantities. Check Parts A–C against the key; personal inventories vary. People is the usual plural in this lesson, with persons reserved for appropriate formal contexts.
