Before the lesson
Print the two learner pages and retain the key. Use visible objects to contrast a desk with two chairs. Review some and any as needed for the negative plural task.
- Read A new flat and complete Part A, linking singular nouns to is and plural nouns to are.
- Fill A room for rent using its conversational clues, then change sentences in Part C. Check some shops becoming aren't any shops.
- Write three classroom or home sentences including a negative, then ask the printed questions about a real or imagined home.
Support and extension
For support, display positive, negative and question frames beside a simple room picture. For an extension, compare two imagined rooms. Full forms is not and are not are grammatical, while the written task practises contractions. Personal descriptions vary; learners do not need to disclose private housing details.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
